Schagen

The ancient authentic market town of Schagen is located on the old mound, along the west side of the West Frisian Omringdijk. The center offers a variety of shops, nice boutiques and numerous terraces with a wide choice of restaurants. The "Makado" shopping center is located in the heart of Schagen. The hospitality of the shopkeepers and the ample free parking are important features of Schagen.

Activities in and around Schagen

If you feel like doing a cultural or other activity, the area also offers many options.

Schagen is known for its West Frisian folklore, with a market on Thursdays in the summer months and a parade of horse-drawn old wagons and Schagenzen in traditional costumes.

In Schagen you will also find an escape room, bowling center, cinema, swimming pool and scaventure (for karting, laser gaming or trampolining).

Visit a museum, amusement park or zoo. There are 2 animal parks in the vicinity, namely: the Hoenderdaell Estate in Anna Paulowna, and the Van Blankendaell Park in Tuitjenhorn. And in Waarland you will find the butterfly dorado with a butterfly garden and mini golf course

In Alkmaar there is a 400 meter ice rink and ice hall. Furthermore, a day on Texel is also highly recommended and you will find a golf course almost around the corner.

Dunes, beaches and forests along the North Holland coast

Discover the beautiful forests and beautiful dunes of North Holland, or go to one of the nearby wide and clean beaches of Callantsoog, Petten, Groote Keeten or Sint Maartenszee (just a 15-minute drive from us). Callantsoog is one of the oldest and most beautiful seaside resorts in the Netherlands. In this village you will find, in addition to the cozy village square, the terraces and beach pavilions, also the nature reserve "het Zwanenwater" with its flora and fauna. Also definitely worth a visit are the Schoorlse dunes and the Hondsbossche Zeewering between Camperduin and Petten.

The West Frisian ring dike

he West Frisian ring dike is a wonder of human hand and is only a 15-minute bike ride from us. This dike once protected people and animals from the salt water. Now this 126 kilometer long monument meanders through the West Frisian landscape past polders, windmills, characteristic villages and bell-shaped farms, with cultural surprises and West Frisian regional products.
